    Matching numerals to quantity

    Posted by Mrs L Jesters
The children took part in a fun number matching activity out on the field. They searched for numbers 1-5 and collected the correct number of objects to match each one. The children used natural materials, tyres, climbing frame and statues counting them carefully before telling an adult that they had found them. Some children worked in small groups while others worked independently.

    When I grow up..

    Posted by Mrs L Jesters
The childminder enjoyed a creative activity where they explored their dreams for the future. They chose a picture representing what they would like to be when they grow up, carefully cutting and sticking in onto their page. They then used their imagination to draw objects and details around it that related to their picture.

    Week 3 of My World

    Posted by Mrs L Jesters
Africa! This week we have gone to Africa, learning about safari animals, music and patterns. We looked at Africa on the map and spoke about the warm climate and large landscapes from videos and pictures. Music played an important role this week as children listened to African style rhythms, clapping along to beat and using their own musical instruments to create sounds along with playing some African drums. We also focused on the different patterns we could see on animal prints and clothing and discussed what we could see during carpet time or when creating our artwork.

We also looked the Amazon rain forest, talking about the environment and the animals that live there. The children worked together to sort through the animal box to place the animals that lived in this continent for our small world area after looking through pictures and videos for help.

    Sorting

One of our favourite activities this week was our Stick Man size sorting task. The children compared and sorted the Stick man figures into small, medium and large. This helped develop early maths skills such as comparison, language and reasoning. This activity also supported fine motor skills as the children were encouraged to cut around the Stick Man figures themselves.
