Year Two – Spring

Spring 2016

Welcome back to Spring Term, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break with your families and are ready to get stuck into some fun new learning. Thank you all very much for my cards and presents, it was very kind of you!

New Topic: 999 what’s your emergency?

The Ks1 team are very excited about this topic. We will be learning about some key people from history who have shaped the emergency services, how the emergency services operate and learning some key first aid skills. Any parents with expertise in these areas are more than welcome to come in and share this. Year 2 talked about the topic before the holidays and I have incorporated some of their learning wishes into the learning. One great idea was how animals are used in the emergency services to aid humans.

Reading – Please continue reading at home, your reading has come on so much and we want to keep this up. I will continue to hear the children read weekly and comment in their reading records. I always give house points to those I can see have been reading at home and those who are making great personal improvements!

Maths – I will now begin to set weekly maths homework which will be given out on a Friday and handed in the following week (by Friday).

Phonics/Spelling – I will also be sending home weekly spelling activities that will involve exploring new spelling patterns that we are currently learning. I would like to see this learning applied in phonics time, as this is most beneficial for the children’s learning. I am not expecting anything to be handed back to me by the children.

Home learning grid – I have put together a grid of suggested home learning activities linked to our topic. As ever any other interests your child may have to do with the topic are welcome to be explored and shared in class.
