Year Two – Autumn

Welcome back! We’ve had a great first 2 weeks in Year 2!

I hope you have all had an amazing time over the holidays; I am looking forward to teaching your children. This is an exciting time for your children as they are the oldest children in the Infants.

The topic for this term will be Chocolate. Topics will only last for as long as they interest the children, so this one could last 2 weeks, it could last 10?! We will follow what inspires, encourages and motivates the children to learn!

Home Learning Grid for Autumn 2016 can be found here:…/Autumn-HL-2016.docx

Some Key information for you:

I am Mr Lord I am the Class Teacher except on Wednesdays when it’ll be Mrs Sprousen will be teaching them all morning and French for one session in the afternoon. Mrs Baker will be teaching them for the other afternoon session. Mrs Wade will also be with us every morning. We are very approachable and will be happy to talk to you about your child’s needs.

Swimming: Due to the weather turning a little cold, we will not be swimming now until June 2017 at the earliest

Fridays: PE

All Year 2 children still receive free fruit for their break time snack but please feel free to give your children a healthy snack for them to enjoy at break time if you would prefer. If your child would like some milk at snack time, please collect a letter from the office

Please ensure that your child has the following items in school every day:

Water bottle: it is important children can keep hydrated throughout the school day. Please ensure only water is put in their water bottles as

Book bag: to store their reading material and any work or letters that need to go home.

PE kit to include: t-shirt; shorts; jogging bottoms; socks; trainers (not daps). Please also be mindful that children’s feet grow at an increasing rate, so don’t forget to change their trainers when they need new school shoes! Thank you.

Old t-shirt/shirt for messy, creative learning at all times.

We have a range of books in class and the children are encouraged to change their books weekly. I will hear the children read independently across the curriculum and then comment in your child’s reading records. I will also look out for comments from and reward house point for the reading they do at home. Any reading they do at home is fantastic, it doesn’t have to be the books from school.

We are continuing to teach phonics and all the reading they do at home will help them with this. If you would like specific phonics fun online games to play with your child then visit;

If you click on Parents and interactive resources and then the Phase your child is working on, (I will let them know) and enjoy playing.

We are looking at Numbers and practising the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables at home will be really useful to speed up their number recall and number facts.

You are very welcome to come into the class room and celebrate your child’s learning whenever you wish.

We are always very grateful to any parents who wish to spend any time within the class, please see me if would like to come into class to help.

I hope your child has a smooth transition into Year 2 and enjoys their time here! Please feel free to come and see me with any questions you may have. If you require paper copies of information and messages I post on the website please let me know.

A very warm welcome to our new member of the class, Evann and Talia

More updates will be added over the coming weeks.

Kind regards,
