Year 3 Home Learning- Awe and Wonder

Our WOW event will be held on the 5th December. Details to be announced.

lit fest

This year, for the first time ever, each class will be given the opportunity to go to the Cheltenham Literature Festival which takes place from 4-13 October. It is hoped that by taking part in workshops led by inspiring and often high-profile figures in the literary world, the children will develop their sense of reading for pleasure as well as the notion that good readers go on to become good writers.

Years 3 and 4 will be going to the festival on Friday 4th October to take part in a workshop called Comedy Capers with Jeremy Strong. Jeremey has written several children books including the My Brother’s Famous Bottom series, The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog series and The Cartoon Kid.

The cost of this trip will be £5.00 per child and can be paid via ParentPay in the normal way. The coach will leave school at 12:00 and we will return by the end of the school day. All children will need a packed lunch as we will leave before the school kitchen opens for hot lunches.

Spring Term 2014

Happy New Year!

Welcome back, I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break. Our topic for the Spring Term is called ‘Active Eights’ as chosen by Year 3. This term is all about getting active and the children are really excited about it. Please click on the links below to view our topic web and home learning grid. The topic web provides an overview of the objectives that we will cover this term but it is subject to change as we will go wherever the children’s learning takes us! Home learning should be completed every two weeks and the children should present their work in their home learning books.

We will share home learning on these dates:

Friday 17th January

Friday 31st January

Friday 14th February

Vikings

The Vicious Vikings

Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing and chocolate filled Easter break!

Here is our topic grid for the new term.

Click here for year 3’s summer term home learning grid – full of exciting learning activities to enjoy at home! We will continue to celebrate home learning on Fridays – it’s a lovely chance to see everyone in the class show off their knowledge and talents and we all look forward to Friday afternoons! I will also be awarding certificates at the end of term for outstanding effort and achievement in home learning activities.

If you have anything you’d like to lend, share or donate to us to help us understand what Viking life was like, please let me know.

Our indoor P.E slot is now on a Tuesday afternoon but we would like to get outside and onto the field as much as possible so please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school everyday.

I will continue to monitor how often the children read at home through checking their reading diaries. This does not always have to be with an adult, the children can read to themselves and record this in their diaries. Those who read consistently 3 or more times a week will be rewarded at the end of the summer term.

I am currently planning an exciting Viking trip to extend our topic learning and will update you soon!
