Year Six Autumn Term

Autumn 2015

Year 6 had a great first day yesterday. I am so excited for the year ahead and feel very lucky to have this awesome bunch for another year!

For the first 2 weeks, we are doing a whole school topic based around a picture called ‘A Roman Triumph’.

Following this, our topic for the Autumn Term is ‘Your Country Needs You’ where we will be learning all about WW2.

Housekeeping information about Year 6:

Please label all items of uniform and school equipment, including water bottles and lunch boxes, with your child’s name.

PE: Swimming will continue this term while the weather is nice every Thursday afternoon. Our second P.E slot is Wednesday so please ensure that PE kits are in school at all times and that your child has a refillable water bottle.

Home Learning:

Please click on the link for the home-learning-grid. The children need to complete a minimum of 4 pieces of home learning to be shared in the week beginning 12th December. I have attached resources to support some of the activities and will provide the children with a pack to take home.

Spelling and Maths homework will be sent home every Tuesday and needs to be returned by the following Monday. Spelling work will involve a rule and the children will be provided with a number of strategies to learn the rule. They will not be tested in school, but the children are expected to apply the learnt spelling rules to their writing. Maths homework will be set from MyMaths and log in details will be sent home with your child.

Reading: Please encourage and listen to your child read at home. Reading is important as it broadens vocabulary, cultivates imagination and also provides information. We recommend that your child reads every day but a minimum of 3 times a week. As the children do not have reading records, I will be keeping a record of how many books they read in school.

Trip: we are visiting Kidzania on Tuesday 20th September. If you are interesting in helping with this trip, please let me know.

PPA: The children will be learning P.E and French on a Thursday afternoon during my PPA time.

If possible, please ensure that your child has wellies and an art shirt in school. Thank-you.
