WALT: Round To Whole Numbers.

Focusing on the mathematical rules involved in rounding, the children have spent some time rounding to numbers from the nearest 10 right the way through to 1,000,000.

WALT: create a timeline for waste.

We discussed how we recycle and then guessed how long different item degrade down. We were very surprised by some items.

WALT: recreate a painting using the artist’s technique.

We continued to study Georges Seurat and then divided his painting: ‘The Circus’ into 4 and worked in groups using pointillism.

Our final picture is on display in the corridor in KS1.

WALT: make bird feeders

We made feeders using lard.

We added to our feeders and discussed how birds need to build themselves up ready for winter.

WALT: use observation skills to recreate a picture.

We studied a picture very carefully and then tried to draw parts from memory.

Then we focussed on the colours used added the main parts to our pictures. This helped us to really look at the detail.

The picture was The Circus by Georges Seurat.

Our next steps will be to look at the technique of Pointillism and recreate a large sized version of the actual picture.

Sensory Garden

This week we thought about and drew a design for a sensory garden. We came up with lots of ideas of what could be included to use all of our senses.

When thinking about what we might hear, the first thing that sprang to mind was the birds. Then we realised that we could try to encourage birds to come into our garden by putting up feeders.

Using plastic bottles, string, bamboo sticks, drawing pins, pencils and of course bird seed, we were able to make some bird feeders to hang from trees. This also tied in very well to our main topic of ‘That’s Rubbish’ by using recycled items.
